In its second year, our Gift of Goodness campaign again filled the hearts and bellies of almost 400 Sydney families in need, to help put nutritious and healthy food on tables at Christmas. Replacing our traditional Christmas hamper campaign of long life canned and packaged foods, the Gift of Goodness hampers provide fresh fruit and vegetables as well as additional pantry items such as rice and pasta for disadvantaged families.
The people who received these hampers are those who have accessed CatholicCare services and are often in a state of crisis or hardship. A small gift of food, at a time of year when some can feel more stress than joy, is a big gift to those who receive it.
HOPE Program participant, Renee, has been receiving support for almost a year and a half and now feels ready to take the next step to move out on her own and finish receiving support from CatholicCare.
When Renee started with the program, she was pregnant with her baby boy and was on the verge of homelessness. The support she received from HOPE helped her into a safe and secure home to help prepare for her baby, and provide ongoing support for the first year of his life.
Renee and her son Rori, received a Gift of Goodness hamper last Christmas and expressed her sincere gratitude to those who donated to provide such a heart warming gift.
“Thank you so much, from my family, to yours!” Says Renee
Each hamper was packed with love by CatholicCare staff, Centacare employees and a group of wonderful volunteers from Sydney Catholic Schools and employees from Catholic Super.
All additional funds raised from the campaign, after the costs of the Christmas hampers, will continue to provide vital support for these families in need throughout the year.
Thank you, for your continued support, and for your passion to help those who are less fortunate in our community. Your help in times of struggle, such as Christmas, is truly appreciated.
