Thanks from Max

March 11, 2018

At Christmas we shared a story about Max – a gorgeous, energetic and happy five year old who is enrolled at our Early Childhood Intervention Program at Cabramatta West. CatholicCare’s critical Early Childhood Intervention Program helps children who have disabilities with services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and education services. We have expanded to assist children between the ages of 6 – 12 years supporting them as they enter primary school. We required your help to purchase new essential equipment and resources - and your help was overwhelming. Thank you!

Thanks to your generous support, over $13,000 was raised which will go towards the purchase of equipment for the program. This vital funding will be spent on a number of critical assessment tools that are used to assess and understand the level of a child’s speech and language skills, sensory skills and motor skills. These tools will allow therapists to better evaluate each child’s individual level of competency, giving parents a clear understanding of their child’s developmental needs and produce the best possible therapy solutions for the whole family.

“The purchase of the assessment tools will not only help the children coming into the program today, but will help many more for years to come. They really are the gift that keeps on giving!” says Tabitha Pethybridge, Early Childhood Intervention Program Team Leader.

Children with a disability require specially designed learning tools to help them on their way. The new pieces of equipment will aid children entering school with their learning abilities and significantly help them to adapt and function in what can be a stressful new environment. Program Team Leader, Tabitha, stresses how important it is for children to continue to receive services.

“We’re so excited the program can now support children as they begin school. Previously we would refer them to another agency, but now we can fully support them throughout their most important stages of development without interruption which is the best possible outcome” explains Tabitha.

With your generous support, the Early Childhood Intervention Program will be better equipped to assist children of primary school age and provide them with the tools, skills and techniques they need to develop and grow to the best of their abilities. Thank you.
