Like everyone, the employees at Centacare look forward to their holidays over the Christmas and New Year period all year. But these employees are planning something a little different.
Centacare provide specialist services to help people living with an intellectual disability find meaningful and sustainable work, overcome barriers to employment and promote social inclusion.
Employees can elect to participate in an extensive holiday program that provides a broad range of activities designed to improve and build on each individuals living skills such as cooking, shopping and travelling on public transport, as well as offering the opportunity for fun social events with their peers.
Exciting day trips to Manly, Hyde Park, Nan Tien Temple and the Blue Mountains are planned where they will learn to use a wide variety of public transport options. Other days will be spent on site entertained with cooking classes, movie days, arts and crafts activities and talent quests with the inclusion of a very special New Years Eve party.
The program also relieves the strain on the employees family members who would normally need to take leave from their own jobs to be there and care for their loved ones full time, when they would otherwise be at work.
We need volunteers to help support us at all of these activities. If you have a spare day or two over the Christmas holiday period and would like to help, please contact Centacare today on 13 18 19.
Your support will help the employees to catch public transport, learn new life skills and have fun. With your help, you will make their holidays one they will truly remember.
