Passionate people pound the pavement to help those in need!

November 11, 2018

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us in the recent City2Surf and Blackmores Sydney Running Festival events. We couldn’t be more proud of our wonderful participants and their passion and warmth they brought to the day.

City2Surf – Sunday 12th August

Participating for the first time in the City2Surf CatholicCare partnered with Sydney Catholic Youth to raise funds for our HOPE program that supports young vulnerable mums who are pregnant or have a child under the age of two.

On the day we had more than 50 passionate caring people who ran for HOPE and raised over $18,000 for the program. After the race runners were invited to relax and refuel at a trackside marquee with plenty of drinks and snacks to go around where they shared their joys and achievements from the day.

We truly appreciate the effort every runner made to help raise funds and awareness of our integral HOPE program.

Blackmores Sydney Running Festival – Sunday 16th September

About a month later we participated in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival to raise funds for Centacare. Sydney certainly turned it on with fantastic sunny weather and bright blue skies, the perfect backdrop for such an iconic and memorable event.

Centacare provides meaningful work and social opportunities for over 60 adults living with an intellectual disability. Funds raised from this event will go towards additional skills training for our supported employees. Almost 40 Centacare employees participated in the event on the day and revelled in the novelty of walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge with their fellow colleagues and friends.

This is a day they look back on with such joy and excitement, and one that they eagerly look forward to every year.

CatholicCare staff rallied together in teams to raise as much as they could to show their support for their fellow employees at Centacare which resulted in a total of 70 participants walking and running on the day. In the lead up to the event staff reached out to their friends and families for support through numerous bake sales, morning teas and BBQ’s to reach our fundraising goal.

Thanks to the amazing effort of all our generous staff and supporters we raised over $20,000 for Centacare to help improve the lives of those living with a disability.

On behalf of the people we support and CatholicCare thank you for getting behind this year’s events. We hope you will join us for a fun and memorable day again in 2019!
