In September 2017 the staff and friends of CatholicCare hit the streets for the Sydney Running Festival to run and raise money for Centacare Industries. Many of the 60 adults with intellectual disabilities who work at Centacare Industries ran with us too.
Centacare employees provide gardening, packing, delivery and document shredding services to businesses throughout Sydney. It’s simple work that is done in a team environment and gives people with autism, downs syndrome and other complicated intellectual disabilities meaningful occupation and vital connections in our community.
It’s hard getting by with an intellectual disability. Many of our adult employees are today learning skills that you might have learned long ago. Centacare Industries provides life skills training to help its supported employees live just like you do: catching public transport, completing a day’s work and organising their home life. It’s important training that makes a very real difference to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in our community. Our aim is to help our employees live more independently and with greater dignity.
Fundraising from the Running Festival was fantastic but it fell $14,203 short of our $40,000 target. Are you able to help us bridge the gap? Your contribution will ensure that our training program can go ahead.
Nothing can take away their disabilities but you can make their lives a whole lot better.
