National Families Week 2017
In this edition of Caring News, we are celebrating National Families Week 2017 which will be held from Monday 15 May to Sunday 21 May 2017. This day coincides with the United Nations International Day of Families.
The aim of National Families Week is to celebrate the vital role that all families play in Australian society. The enduring theme is 'Stronger families, stronger communities'.
This theme highlights the important role families play as the central building block of our community. When we help families, we know that we are helping communities too.
At CatholicCare, we work with families all over Sydney every day. We work with families from many different cultures, helping them gain the support they need. We share in the joys of being together as family and we share in the challenges that families face. We are passionate about helping families develop positive strategies to meet the challenges so that families, and communities, thrive.
To celebrate National Families Week, our passionate Family Support Team has put together their Top Tips for managing stress:-
Take a deep breath when you feel overwhelmed by family life. Deep breathing helps to reduce anxiety leaving you better able to make decisions calmly.
Get together with another family you know for an outing. Sharing an activity and your own family experiences and culture helps to reduce isolation and boost wellbeing.
Treat yourself regularly to a cup of tea and a sit down. We all need time to reflect on where we are and giving yourself a breather helps your children learn to be kind to themselves too.
When you feel low, remind yourself you are doing your best. We often set expectations for ourselves that are unrealistic and this creates stress and anxiety. Go a little more gently on your expectations of yourself.
Ask for help if nothing you are trying seems to help. There are many sources of support for families that are readily available and can help ease stress in difficult times.
